There is a kind of man who finds the open-plan office intolerable — not because he is antisocial, but because he is serious. He requires silence, or good conversation. He requires the company of men who share his conviction that work is a calling, that faith is not a weekend hobby, and that a well-stocked bookshelf is not decoration but equipment.
General Quarters exists for him. A private, men-only workspace in Saint Paul — built for depth, for industry, and for the kind of camaraderie that only comes when serious men work in proximity toward serious ends.
